The American Family Association, whose purpose is to “represent and stand for traditional family values,” has recently announced a formal boycott of the nationwide retailer Home Depot for its proud display and continued support for the homosexual agenda. The family group encourages individuals who support the traditional family structure to shop at alternate retailers and has even renamed the retail giant, “The Homosexual Depot.”

According to www.BoycotttheHomeDepot.com, the AFA website dedicated to the boycott, Home Depot’s support of alternative lifestyles is nothing new to the retailer and its support is harming innocent children:

“For several years, The Home Depot has given its financial and corporate support to open displays of homosexual activism on main streets in America’s towns.

Rather than remain neutral in the culture war, The Home Depot has chosen to sponsor and participate in numerous gay pride parades and festivals. Most grievous is The Home Depot’s deliberately exposing small children to lascivious displays of sexual conduct by homosexuals and cross-dressers, which are a common occurrence at these events.”

The American Family Association website displays “proof” of the harm that emerges from the gay pride parades that Home Depot participates in, by including parent testimonials and photographs of the Home Depot floats in parades that occur on the “main streets of America.”

In response to the AFA’s concern over its participation in gay pride events, Home Depot officials said that “it was an ‘inclusion issue’ with the company and that it had no intention of forbidding their employees to be involved in the pride festivals ‘in any way’.”

The American Family Association, a non-profit advocacy group, has every right to advocate on behalf of traditional families and ask like-minded individuals to participate in a boycott of companies that support an agenda not in line with their group’s mission. That is the group’s right. However, a larger point needs to be addressed – 4 of the 5 examples on BoycotttheHomeDepot.com website that claim to expose children to the homosexual agenda include Home Depot’s mere financial support or corporate presence at gay pride parades. Any parent who takes a child to a gay pride parade was already planning on exposing their child to enthused support of alternate lifestyles, whether or not the retailer was present.

Where Home Depot arguably goes a little “too far” in support of the homosexual agenda is in its company policy to offer insurance benefits for employee sex-change operations. According to the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index, “The Home Depot offers insurance benefits that cover sex-changes operations for employees. That insurance also extends to same-sex partners of homosexual employees, proving The Home Depot considers gay couples as ‘married’.”
